I'm Aicha Mbongo, a Graduate Assistant & MSc IT candidate at Strathmore University, Nairobi β where I sit at the crossroads of healthcare, machine learning, and explainability.
My research applies Explainable AI (XAI) to the automated detection of Diabetic Retinopathy β a leading cause of preventable blindness β making AI decisions interpretable enough for clinicians to trust and act on.
Beyond research, I support undergraduate software engineering education, build full-stack web applications, automate academic workflows with Google Workspace, and teach the full SDLC lifecycle.
"The most powerful thing you can do with data is use it to save a life."
Diabetic Retinopathy Detection with Explainable AI (MSc Thesis)
| ποΈ Problem | DR causes preventable blindness β yet specialist access is scarce in low-resource settings |
| π€ Approach | Deep learning CNNs for automated DR grading from retinal fundus images |
| π Explainability | XAI techniques β Grad-CAM, LIME, SHAP β to make predictions interpretable for clinicians |
| π₯ Goal | Trustworthy, deployable e-health tools for under-resourced healthcare settings |
